About the Callaway JAWS Raw

The JAWS Raw is Callaway's 2022 tour wedge, announced in June 2022, at retail from July 2022 and replaced by the Opus in August 2024. It kept the JAWS groove package from the MD5 era and left the face unplated so it rusts into play, under Chrome and Black Plasma body finishes. The line is unusually broad: 24 loft/bounce/grind combinations from 48 to 62 degrees across five grinds, several of them right-hand only. Lengths run from 35.75 inches at 48 degrees to 35 inches at 58 and up, all at a 64-degree lie.

Grind options

The sole grinds this model is sold in, with the lofts each one is available at.

S Grind48°, 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
Callaway's most-played sole — medium width with a slight rear ribbon, moderate heel relief and a small leading-edge chamfer. Fits a wide variety of conditions and swings, offered at every loft from 48 to 60.
W Grind50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
Wide, full sole with 12 degrees of bounce — the most forgiving grind through the turf, for steeper swings, soft conditions and sand.
X Grind54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
High-bounce performance on a narrower sole for steep attack angles that still want to open the face, at 54 to 60 degrees.
Z Grind58°, 60°, 62°
Forgiving low-bounce option with an aggressive leading-edge chamfer for clean turf interaction, at 58 to 62 degrees.
C Grind54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
Classic low-bounce C shape with heel and toe relief for open-face shots from firm lies, at 54 to 60 degrees.

Frequently asked questions

What lofts does the Callaway JAWS Raw come in?

48 to 62 degrees — 24 loft, bounce and grind combinations, one of the widest tour-wedge matrices of its generation. Several combinations are right-handed only.

What grinds does the JAWS Raw offer?

Five: the all-round S at every loft from 48 to 60, the wide high-bounce W (50-60), the high-bounce X (54-60), the low-bounce Z (58-62, the only 62-degree option) and the C grind (54-60).

Why is the JAWS Raw face unplated?

Callaway leaves the hitting area raw so no plating interferes with the JAWS groove edges; the face rusts with use while the Chrome or Black Plasma body finish protects the rest of the head.

Finding one used

The Callaway JAWS Raw ran from 2022 to 2024 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search the used listings on eBay. Check the loft and bounce against the chart above before buying used — wedges are routinely bent from standard, and worn grooves cost spin long before a wedge looks worn.
