What the differences mean

At the 7-iron, the KING Forged Tec is 30° and the KING Forged Tec X is 27°, a 3° gap. Each degree of loft is worth roughly 3 to 4 yards of carry at the same swing speed, so the KING Forged Tec X should carry roughly 9 to 12 yards further with that club, on a slightly lower, shallower flight than the KING Forged Tec. The KING Forged Tec is listed as forged multi-material and the KING Forged Tec X as forged hollow body with a PWRSHELL face, foam-filled, tungsten weighted. The KING Forged Tec X's hollow body lets the face flex more and moves mass low and outward, usually giving higher launch and more ball speed on off-centre strikes than the KING Forged Tec, at some cost in feel. The KING Forged Tec X adds tungsten weighting, which lowers the centre of gravity and raises stability on mis-hits, helping the long irons launch.

There are 6 years between these sets (2016 and 2022), more than one design generation. Over that time irons moved toward stronger lofts, thinner and faster faces, hollow and multi-material heads and wider use of tungsten, so the newer set is not simply a better version of the older one: it may launch and spin quite differently. Which should you choose?

The KING Forged Tec X is the stronger-lofted set — up to 3.5° stronger than the KING Forged Tec on matching clubs. Expect longer carry per numbered iron but a flatter descent angle; gapping at the wedge end is where that shows up.
