About the PXG 0311 SGI GEN2

The 0311 SGI is a brand-new head PXG introduced alongside the rest of its GEN2 range on 15 March 2018 (on sale 19 April 2018 at $400 per club) — its most forgiving iron yet, with a wide top line, low profile and a wide sole "designed for effortless impact," plus ample offset to build confidence at address. It shares the GEN2 family's forged hollow body filled with COR2 polymer (PXG's faster-reacting replacement for the original TPE filler), a 1.5 mm HT1770 maraging steel face, an internal face perimeter cut-out enlarging the functional face area by about 15 percent, CNC-milled perimeter tungsten weighting, and an angled back surface that shifts extra mass toward the toe for higher MOI. PXG published the chart from 4-iron through a 59-degree lob wedge, with the scoring clubs stamped W, G, S and L — listed here as PW, GW, SW and LW. Every set was built to order from PXG's shaft menu, so no stock shaft is recorded. Unlike PXG's T and XF heads, the SGI name and slot did not carry forward into the GEN3 range.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a PXG 0311 SGI GEN2 7-iron?

The PXG 0311 SGI GEN2 7-iron has a loft of 29 degrees, a lie of 62.5 degrees and a length of 37.0 inches.

What does SGI stand for on the PXG 0311?

Super Game Improvement. PXG built it with a wide top line, low profile, wide sole and ample offset as the most forgiving head in the GEN2 range, introduced alongside the T, P and XF on 15 March 2018.

How is the PXG 0311 SGI GEN2 different from the 0311 XF GEN2?

The SGI is PXG's more forgiving head still: it runs stronger lofts than the XF at the top of the set but pairs a lower profile, wider sole and more offset for golfers who, in PXG's words, want the definitive 'ease of use' iron.

Did the PXG 0311 SGI continue after GEN2?

No confirmed GEN3 (or later) SGI has been documented — PXG's later 0311 iron line-up narrowed to P, T and XP heads, suggesting the SGI slot was retired after GEN2.

Where it sits in the lineup

Introduced in 2018, the PXG 0311 SGI GEN2 is a current super game improvement set in the PXG range, with no replacement announced. New sets are built to the standard lofts, lies and lengths in the chart above, though a fitting can move any of them — so confirm the numbers on the order sheet. Used sets appear on eBay, 2nd Swing and Golf Avenue, and should be measured against this chart before buying.

Data compiled from:
  • PXG's own 0311 SGI GEN2 Irons page (pxg.com/en-us/clubs/irons/gen2/0311sgi), archive.org capture of 20 July 2019 — the full 'PXG 0311 SGI GEN2 Irons Specs' table (loft, lie, length in inches, bounce and offset for the 4-iron through the L wedge), the $400 price, and the full technology copy: wide top line and low profile with a wide sole and noticeable offset, COR2-filled milled internal cavity, 1.5 mm HT1770 maraging steel face, 15-percent-larger internal face perimeter cut-out, CNC-milled perimeter tungsten weighting and an angled back surface shifting mass toward the toe.
  • golf.com 'PXG introduces new and improved 0311 GEN2 irons for 2018' and golfwrx.com 'After nearly 3 years, PXG finally launches new 0311 (T, P, XF, SGI and X) Gen2 irons' — the 15 March 2018 announcement and 19 April 2018 on-sale date for the full GEN2 range including the SGI, described as 'a brand new model designed for players who want the easiest-to-hit clubs available... the most forgiving iron ever produced by PXG.'
  • This repo's PXG data as of batch 8 — no '0311 SGI GEN3' (or later) file exists, and PXG's GEN3-and-up iron line-up runs P/T/XP only, indicating the SGI name and slot did not continue past GEN2; year_discontinued is left null in the absence of a confirmed retirement date.
