About the Adams Idea a2 OS
The Idea a2 OS is the oversize, maximum-game-improvement version of the a2 generation and the first of Adams' OS hybrid-iron sets. The stock men's make-up runs four progressively shaped hybrid clubs - a 19-degree 3 i-Wood and 23-degree 4 i-Wood, then the iron-like 5 and 6 hybrid irons - ahead of hollow-back 7- and 8-irons and large-sweetspot 9-iron and pitching wedge, with a 17-degree 2 i-Wood offered to extend the set. Adams claimed a centre of gravity 11 percent lower and 2.5 times deeper than conventional irons. Lofts are slightly stronger than the standard a2 from the 8-iron down, with a 33-degree 7-iron and a 44-degree pitching wedge. The 5 and 6 below are the hybrid-iron heads that Adams numbered as part of the iron set; the 2, 3 and 4 i-Woods (17, 19 and 23 degrees) are wood-like hybrids rather than irons and are not listed. Tom Watson fronted the a2 OS advertising.

Frequently asked questions
What is the loft of an Adams Idea a2 OS 7-iron?
The Adams Idea a2 OS 7-iron has a loft of 33 degrees, with a 62-degree lie and a 37.5-inch length.
What clubs come in a stock Adams Idea a2 OS set?
The stock men's set is a 19-degree 3 i-Wood, 23-degree 4 i-Wood, iron-like 5 and 6 hybrid irons, hollow-back 7- and 8-irons, and cavity-back 9-iron and pitching wedge. A 17-degree 2 i-Wood plus GW, SW and LW heads extended the set.
How does the Idea a2 OS differ from the standard Idea a2?
The OS replaces two more of the mid irons with hybrid heads (four hybrid clubs in total versus two), uses wider soles, and runs about a degree stronger in the short irons with a 44-degree pitching wedge against the a2's 45 degrees.
Finding a used set
The Adams Idea a2 OS ran from 2005 to 2007 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.

- Note: the spec table lists the 5 and 6 as 'Hybrid Iron' heads; they are counted in the iron specs above because Adams numbered and sold them as part of the iron set, in the same way later OS sets are recorded in this database
