About the Adams Idea a2

The Idea a2 is the second generation of Adams' hybrid-iron combo set, aimed at what Adams called the aspirational player. The stock make-up replaces the long irons with a 20-degree 3 i-Wood and a 23-degree 4 i-Wood in a tour-derived shape, runs hollow-back 5-, 6- and 7-irons through the middle, and finishes with cavity-back 8-iron through pitching wedge. Lofts stay traditional, with a 33-degree 7-iron and a 45-degree pitching wedge, and 1 and 2 i-Woods, a 3- or 4-iron and GW, SW and LW heads were available through custom fitting. Only the iron clubs are listed below; the stock 3 i-Wood (20 degrees, 59-degree lie, 40 inches) and 4 i-Wood (23 degrees, 60-degree lie, 39.25 inches) are hybrids rather than irons.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of an Adams Idea a2 7-iron?

The Adams Idea a2 7-iron has a loft of 33 degrees, with a 62-degree lie and a 37.25-inch length.

What clubs come in a stock Adams Idea a2 set?

Eight clubs: a 20-degree 3 i-Wood and 23-degree 4 i-Wood replace the long irons, followed by hollow-back 5-, 6- and 7-irons and cavity-back 8-iron through pitching wedge. GW, SW and LW heads plus 1 and 2 i-Woods were available through custom fitting.

What is the difference between the Idea a2 and the Idea a2 OS?

The a2 is the standard game-improvement set with two hybrids and traditional lofts. The a2 OS is the oversize, maximum-game-improvement version with four hybrid clubs, slightly weaker top-end lofts in the scoring clubs and graphite-first stock shafts.

Finding a used set

The Adams Idea a2 ran from 2005 to 2007 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.
