About the Adams Tight Lies

The modern Tight Lies irons were sold as part of Adams' Tight Lies packaged sets under TaylorMade ownership rather than as a standalone fitted iron set. The make-up is a hybrid-iron combo: a 4-hybrid and 5-hybrid replace the long irons, followed by wide-sole, perimeter-weighted cavity-back irons from the 6-iron through the pitching wedge plus a sand wedge. Lofts match the earlier Idea a7 ladder, with a 33-degree 7-iron and a 45-degree pitching wedge, and the lie and length progression steps by roughly 0.5 degrees and 0.5 inches per club. The 12-piece set carries only the 5-hybrid, while the 14-piece Tight Lies Plus set adds the 22-degree 4-hybrid. Only the iron clubs are listed below; the 4H (22 degrees, 60.5-degree lie, 39 inches) and 5H (25 degrees, 61-degree lie, 38 inches) are hybrids.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of an Adams Tight Lies 7-iron?

The Adams Tight Lies 7-iron has a loft of 33 degrees, with a 62-degree lie and a 37-inch length.

What clubs come in a stock Adams Tight Lies set?

It is a hybrid-iron combo. The 14-piece Tight Lies Plus set carries a 22-degree 4-hybrid and 25-degree 5-hybrid in place of the long irons, then a 6-iron through pitching wedge and a 56-degree sand wedge. The 12-piece set drops the 4-hybrid.

Are the Adams Tight Lies irons the same as the 1990s Tight Lies irons?

No. The Tight Lies name was revived for packaged sets after TaylorMade acquired Adams in 2012. The lofts here are considerably stronger than the original 1990s Tight Lies and Tight Lies GT irons.

Finding a used set

The Adams Tight Lies is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.

Data compiled from:
  • InTheHoleGolf.com, Adams Tight Lies Plus Set 14 Piece product page (https://www.intheholegolf.com/TL-PLUS-1312/Adams-Tight-Lies-Plus-Set-14-Piece.html) — retrieved specification table giving loft, lie and length for every club in the set, including the 4-hybrid, 5-hybrid and the 6-iron through sand wedge reproduced here
  • InTheHoleGolf.com, Adams Tight Lies Set 12 Piece product page — same iron lofts (6-iron 29, 7-iron 33, 8-iron 37, 9-iron 41, PW 45, SW 56) with only a 25-degree 5-hybrid ahead of them
  • Confidence is medium: the loft, lie and length figures come from a retailer set-spec table rather than an Adams spec sheet, and no offsets, bounces or swing weights are published, so those keys are omitted. The 2015 introduction year is the best available attribution for this Tight Lies packaged-set generation and is approximate; corrections welcome.
