About the TaylorMade rac TP MB

The rac TP MB replaced the rac MB as TaylorMade's muscleback blade, developed with tour-player input and shipping from April 2006 in right-hand men's form only. It keeps the rac Feel Pockets - enlarged in this generation - adds a CNC-milled face and grooves, and pairs minimal offset with a high centre of gravity and a tour-configured sole for workability. Lofts are traditional, with a 36-degree 7-iron and 48-degree pitching wedge across the 2-PW range. The sell sheet is titled for 2006 and TaylorMade's own Irons Legacy timeline files the model under that year, so the 2005 date sometimes seen in listings refers to the wider rac TP family launch rather than this blade.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a TaylorMade rac TP MB 7-iron?

The rac TP MB 7-iron has a loft of 36 degrees, with a 61.5-degree lie and a 36.75-inch steel-shaft length.

What is the difference between the rac MB and the rac TP MB?

The rac TP MB is the 2006 follow-up to the 2003 rac MB. It enlarges the rac Feel Pockets, adds a CNC-milled face and grooves and a Tour Satin finish, and drops the 1-iron, running 2-iron through pitching wedge in right-hand only.

What shafts did the rac TP MB come with?

The stock shaft was the Precision Rifle Tour Flighted in 5.0, 6.0 and 6.5 flexes, building to a D3 swingweight (D4 in the pitching wedge).

Finding a used set

The TaylorMade rac TP MB ran from 2006 to 2008 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.

Data compiled from:
  • TaylorMade official rac TP MB Irons sell sheet (06_rac_TP_MB_SS.PDF, taylormadegolf.com productspecs library): full 2-PW loft/lie/offset-in-mm/steel-length/swingweight table, Rifle Tour Flighted 5.0/6.0/6.5 stock shafts at 112-120 g, TM Tour Velvet grip, right-hand men's only, available April 2006
  • Length note: the sell sheet prints 38.75 inches for both the 2- and 3-iron; the 2-iron figure is reproduced as printed and is likely a misprint for 39.25
  • Offsets converted from the sheet's millimetre values (2.1 mm 2-iron to 0.5 mm PW)
  • TaylorMade Irons Legacy timeline lists 'RAC TP MB FORGED' under 2006; The Sand Trap's rac MB TP review corroborates the CNC-milled face and Rifle 6.0 stock shaft
