Lofts compared
- VR_S Covert 2.0
- Vapor Speed
What the differences mean
At the 7-iron, the VR_S Covert 2.0 is 31° and the Vapor Speed is 32°, a 1° gap. Each degree of loft is worth roughly 3 to 4 yards of carry at the same swing speed, so the VR_S Covert 2.0 should carry roughly 3 to 4 yards further with that club, on a slightly lower, shallower flight than the Vapor Speed. Across the 9 clubs both sets share, the Vapor Speed averages 0.7° weaker, with the largest gap at the 3-iron (18° vs 19°). Beyond loft, the VR_S Covert 2.0 7-iron sits 0.5° flatter (62° vs 62.5°), which nudges start direction slightly right for a right-hander; the Vapor Speed 7-iron is 0.25 inches longer (37.5" vs 37.75").
The sets are built differently: the VR_S Covert 2.0 runs 3-iron to AW (9 clubs), the Vapor Speed 3-iron to SW (10 clubs).
Both are game improvement irons, built for roughly 10 to 25 handicaps. Perimeter-weighted cavity backs with wider soles, more offset and stronger lofts, aimed at mid handicaps. Because they target the same golfer, the decision comes down to the specific loft, feel and shaping differences rather than who the sets are made for.
The VR_S Covert 2.0 is listed as investment cast cavity back and the Vapor Speed as cast cavity back with face-centred weighting. With the build method this similar, differences in feel come down to head size, sole width, topline and offset rather than how the heads are made.
Both sets were introduced in 2014, so this is a choice between two models from the same lineup rather than an upgrade: Nike designed them to sit side by side for different players.
Which should you choose?
The Vapor Speed is the weaker-lofted set — up to 1° weaker than the VR_S Covert 2.0. That trades raw distance for a steeper landing angle and more predictable stopping power into greens.
