What the differences mean
At the 7-iron, the 0311 P GEN5 is 30° and the 0311 XP GEN5 is 27°, a 3° gap. Each degree of loft is worth roughly 3 to 4 yards of carry at the same swing speed, so the 0311 XP GEN5 should carry roughly 9 to 12 yards further with that club, on a slightly lower, shallower flight than the 0311 P GEN5. Across the 8 clubs both sets share, the 0311 XP GEN5 averages 2.8° stronger, with the largest gap at the 5-iron (23° vs 20°). The pitching wedges are 44° and 41°; the stronger one leaves a 9° jump to a 50° gap wedge, which matters when planning wedge gapping. Beyond loft, the 0311 XP GEN5 7-iron sits 0.5° flatter (62.5° vs 62°), which nudges start direction slightly right for a right-hander; the 0311 XP GEN5 7-iron is 0.5 inches longer (37" vs 37.5").
The 0311 P GEN5 is a players distance iron and the 0311 XP GEN5 a game improvement iron, so they sit one step apart on the forgiveness scale. The 0311 XP GEN5 is the more forgiving design, with a wider sole, more offset and more perimeter weighting for roughly 10 to 25 handicaps. The 0311 P GEN5 trades some of that for a more compact head, thinner topline and more control over flight and shape, which suits roughly 5 to 15 handicaps who want extra distance from a compact head.
Both heads are listed as forged hollow body with an XCOR2 core. Both use hollow-body heads, so both trade a little feel for face flex and launch help.
Both sets were introduced in 2022, so this is a choice between two models from the same lineup rather than an upgrade: PXG designed them to sit side by side for different players.
Which should you choose?
The 0311 XP GEN5 is the stronger-lofted set — up to 3° stronger than the 0311 P GEN5 on matching clubs. Expect longer carry per numbered iron but a flatter descent angle; gapping at the wedge end is where that shows up.
Both charts are reproduced in full on their own pages: PXG 0311 P GEN5 specs and PXG 0311 XP GEN5 specs.
