About the Edel SMS
The SMS was Edel Golf's first iron built around Swing Match Weighting, the adjustable system the Texas fitting specialist introduced on its wedges in 2021: three ports on the back of every head take two 2-gram weights and one 8-gram weight, and a fitter shifts the heavy weight toward heel, centre or toe to match the club's balance to the player's swing. Announced on 13 June 2022 and at fitters from 21 July 2022 at $250 per club, it is a hollow-body players-distance head — forged 1025 carbon steel with a plasma-welded maraging steel face cup and urethane foam fill — with moderate lofts for the class: a 32-degree 7-iron and 45-degree pitching wedge across a 4-iron to 50-degree gap wedge range. Sets are fitter-built with a broad shaft menu rather than a single stock shaft. Still current, with the compact SMS Pro added alongside it in 2023.

Frequently asked questions
What is the loft of an Edel SMS 7-iron?
The Edel SMS 7-iron has a loft of 32 degrees, with a 62-degree lie and a 37-inch standard length.
How does the weighting system on the Edel SMS irons work?
Each head has three ports on the back holding two 2-gram weights and one 8-gram weight. During a fitting the heaviest weight is moved to heel, centre or toe, changing face angle and path delivery to match the golfer's swing.
Are the Edel SMS irons forged?
The body is forged 1025 carbon steel, but the head is hollow, with a plasma-welded maraging steel face cup and a urethane foam fill — a players-distance construction rather than a one-piece forging.
What is the difference between the Edel SMS and SMS Pro irons?
The SMS is the larger hollow-body players-distance model launched in 2022 with a 4-GW chart; the SMS Pro, added in 2023, is a compact one-piece-forged players head with the same movable-weight system, stronger 3-iron availability and the same 45-degree pitching wedge.
Where it sits in the lineup
Introduced in 2022, the Edel SMS is a current players distance set in the Edel range, with no replacement announced. New sets are built to the standard lofts, lies and lengths in the chart above, though a fitting can move any of them — so confirm the numbers on the order sheet. Used sets appear on eBay, 2nd Swing and Golf Avenue, and should be measured against this chart before buying.
- The Golf Wire 'Edel Golf Launches Game Changing Swing Match System Irons', 13 June 2022 — the announcement date, 21 July 2022 retail availability, $250-per-club pricing and the Swing Match Weighting system, which fix year_introduced at 2022.
- Driving Range Heroes 'Edel SMS Irons Review' — the only published full chart found: lofts 23/26/29/32/36/40/45/50, lies 60.5 to 64.0 and lengths 38.5 to 35.5 inches for 4-iron through gap wedge, plus the forged hollow body and dampening urethane foam construction.
- Golf Reviews Guide 'Edel SMS Irons Review' and MyGolfSpy Labs 'Edel SMS Irons Test' — independently corroborate every loft (23 through 50, including the 32-degree 7-iron, which MyGolfSpy confirmed against Edel's product specs) and the 4-iron-to-GW set composition.
- Golf Monthly 'Edel SMS Iron' review and amateurgolf.com 'Edel SMS and SMS Pro Irons' review — corroborate the hollow 1025 body with plasma-welded maraging steel face cup, urethane foam fill, the 2g/8g/2g stock weight configuration and the $250-per-club price.
- Note: confidence is medium because Edel's own product pages no longer publish a per-club chart; the lofts are corroborated by three independent sources but the lie and length columns rest on the Driving Range Heroes chart alone. Their lie/length progression matches the chart Edel published for the SMS Pro. No stock shaft is recorded: Edel sells through fitters with a menu spanning KBS, Nippon, Project X and Aerotech, with Golf Pride Tour Velvet the standard grip.
