About the PXG 0311 XF GEN1

The 0311XF — "XF" for Xtreme Forgiveness — was PXG's first game-improvement iron, announced on 6 September 2016 as a longer-bladed, wider-soled, higher-offset version of the original 0311's technology package for golfers who wanted extreme forgiveness without losing the look of a PXG blade. It keeps the forged S25C carbon steel hollow body, a large internal cavity injected with TPE for feel and forgiveness, a 1.5 mm HT1770 maraging steel face and tungsten perimeter weighting, all inside a larger, more confidence-inspiring profile than the original 0311 or the 0311T. PXG published the range from 3-iron through a 59-degree lob wedge, with the scoring clubs stamped W, G, S and L — listed here as PW, GW, SW and LW. Every set was built to order from PXG's shaft menu, so no stock shaft is recorded.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a PXG 0311XF GEN1 7-iron?

The PXG 0311XF GEN1 7-iron has a loft of 30 degrees, a lie of 62.5 degrees and a length of 37.0 inches.

What does XF stand for on the PXG 0311XF?

Xtreme Forgiveness. PXG built it with a longer blade length, wider sole and more offset than the original 0311 to make it PXG's most forgiving iron at the time, while keeping the same blade-inspired look.

When did the PXG 0311XF come out?

PXG announced it on 6 September 2016, roughly a year after the original 0311. The XF GEN2 replaced it when PXG's GEN2 range launched in 2018.

What clubs came in a PXG 0311XF GEN1 set?

PXG published specs from the 3-iron through a 59-degree lob wedge, including a 44-degree pitching wedge, 49-degree gap wedge and 54-degree sand wedge. Sets were built to order rather than sold in a fixed composition.

Finding a used set

The PXG 0311 XF GEN1 ran from 2016 to 2018 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.

Data compiled from:
  • PXG's own 0311XF GEN1 Irons page (pxg.com/en-us/clubs/irons/gen1/0311xf), archive.org capture of 21 September 2019 — the full spec table (loft, lie, length in inches, bounce and offset for the 3-iron through the L wedge), and the full technology copy: longer blade length with noticeable offset, wide sole for a slightly steeper angle of attack, a large TPE-filled internal cavity, 1.5 mm HT1770 maraging steel face, CNC-milled perimeter tungsten weighting and an S25C soft-carbon-steel forged body.
  • prweb.com press release 'New PXG 0311XF Irons Appeal to Golfers Who Desire Xtreme Forgiveness', 6 September 2016, and golfdigest.com 'New PXG 0311XF creates forgiveness in blade-like shape' — the announcement date, the game-improvement positioning ('extreme forgiveness and a superior feel, while maintaining the irresistible look of a PXG blade'), and the longer blade length, wider sole and larger profile versus the original 0311.
  • The repo's existing 0311 XF GEN2 entry (pxg/0311-xf-gen2-irons.yaml) names 'PXG 0311 XF GEN1' as its predecessor, corroborating this as the direct forerunner of the GEN2 XF.
