About the Sub 70 659 CB
Forged players cavity back from Sub 70, the direct-to-consumer maker in Sycamore, Illinois, released in early 2022 alongside the 659 MB blade and 659 TC tour cavity as a three-model family. Each head is forged and milled from a single billet of DT-4 soft carbon steel; the model succeeds the 639 CB with the same head size and offset but more mass low in the head for a lower centre of gravity, and the 3-, 4- and 5-irons carry an undercut cavity for higher ball speed. Lofts are traditional for the class — 32 degrees at the 7-iron and 45 at the pitching wedge — and all three 659 models share one loft and lie chart so they can be blended into combo sets. The stock chart runs 3-iron through a 50-degree gap wedge that Sub 70 stamps AW, listed here as GW. Sold at 109 dollars per club in Brushed Chrome satin, black and raw finishes, with .355 taper-tip and .370 parallel hosel versions, and built to order with a wide menu of no-upcharge shafts and grips. Still in Sub 70's line as of mid-2025 with no announced successor.

Frequently asked questions
What is the loft of a Sub 70 659 CB 7-iron?
The Sub 70 659 CB 7-iron has a loft of 32 degrees, a lie of 61.5 degrees and a standard steel length of 37 inches.
Is the Sub 70 659 CB forged?
Yes. Each head is forged and then CNC milled from a single billet of DT-4 soft carbon steel, and the 3- through 5-irons add an undercut cavity for extra ball speed.
Can the Sub 70 659 CB be combined with the 659 MB or 659 TC?
Yes. All three 659 models share the same loft and lie chart, so Sub 70 explicitly supports combo sets — for example CB long irons blending through TC into MB short irons.
How do Sub 70 659 CB lofts compare with the 699 V2?
The 659 CB is two degrees weaker through the scoring clubs — 32 degrees at the 7-iron and a 45-degree pitching wedge against the 699 V2's 30 and 43 — reflecting its traditional players-iron positioning.
Where it sits in the lineup
Introduced in 2022, the Sub 70 659 CB is a current players set in the Sub 70 range, with no replacement announced. It replaced the Sub 70 639 CB. New sets are built to the standard lofts, lies and lengths in the chart above, though a fitting can move any of them — so confirm the numbers on the order sheet. Used sets appear on eBay, 2nd Swing and Golf Avenue, and should be measured against this chart before buying.
- Sub 70 official 659 CB Satin Irons product page (golfsub70.com/sub-70-659-cb-forged-satin-irons.html, archive.org capture of 19 March 2022) — full specification table for 3-iron through AW (listed here as GW): loft, lie, offset, bounce, head weight and standard steel/graphite lengths, plus the construction copy: forged and milled from a billet of DT-4 soft steel, undercut cavity in the 3-, 4- and 5-irons, same head size and offset as the 639 CB with added sole weight, and loft/lie consistency with the 659 MB and 659 TC for combo sets. Offsets are published in millimetres (3.5 mm at the 3-iron to 1.5 mm at the AW) and converted to inches here; lengths listed are the standard steel build, graphite runs 0.5 inch longer.
- MyGolfSpy 'Sub 70 659 Irons (MB, TC and CB)' (mygolfspy.com/news-opinion) — 2022 launch coverage of the three-model 659 family; pricing of 109 dollars per club (763 dollars for a seven-piece set).
- Driving Range Heroes 'Sub 70 659 Irons Review' (drivingrangeheroes.com, 6 July 2022) — corroborates the 7-iron at 32 degrees loft, 61.5 lie, 37 inches, and that all three 659 variants share one loft chart; notes prototypes were shown in summer 2021 ahead of the 2022 release.
- Note: swing weight is not published and Sub 70 builds every set to order from a large no-upcharge shaft and grip menu, so no single stock shaft is recorded. year_discontinued is null because the 659 CB remained in Sub 70's catalogue as of an August 2025 site capture, with no direct successor announced (the 2025 669 line sits in other categories).
