About the Sub 70 799

The 799 is the most forgiving iron Sub 70 has designed, released in July 2021 at the top of the game-improvement side of the Sycamore, Illinois direct-to-consumer maker's range. It pairs the same ultra-thin 1.7 mm 455 Carpenter steel face as the 699 with a hollow body injected with TPE resin, an ultra-wide sole and heavy perimeter weighting, aimed at slower swing speeds that need launch. The stock chart runs 4-iron through sand wedge with generous offset (5.7 mm at the 4-iron), upright lies and a 44-degree pitching wedge, followed by a 49-degree gap wedge that Sub 70 stamps AW (listed here as GW) and a 54-degree SW. The model remains in Sub 70's line as of mid-2026 with no announced successor, sold built to order with the company's no-upcharge shaft and grip menu.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a Sub 70 799 7-iron?

The Sub 70 799 7-iron has a loft of 30 degrees, a lie of 63 degrees and a standard length of 37.5 inches.

How forgiving is the Sub 70 799?

Sub 70 calls it the most forgiving iron it has ever designed — a hollow-body head with a 1.7 mm 455 Carpenter steel face, TPE resin fill, an ultra-wide sole and heavy perimeter weighting, aimed at players who need help launching the ball.

What clubs come in a Sub 70 799 set?

The chart runs 4-iron through a 54-degree sand wedge, including a 44-degree pitching wedge and a 49-degree gap wedge that Sub 70 stamps AW.

How do Sub 70 799 lofts compare with the 699 V2?

The two share a 30-degree 7-iron, but the 799's pitching wedge is one degree weaker at 44 versus 43 — the 799's extra forgiveness comes from its ultra-wide-sole hollow head rather than stronger lofts.

Where it sits in the lineup

Introduced in 2021, the Sub 70 799 is a current super game improvement set in the Sub 70 range, with no replacement announced. New sets are built to the standard lofts, lies and lengths in the chart above, though a fitting can move any of them — so confirm the numbers on the order sheet. Used sets appear on eBay, 2nd Swing and Golf Avenue, and should be measured against this chart before buying.

  • Sub 70 official 799 Irons product page (golfsub70.com/sub-70-799-irons.html, archive.org capture of 13 November 2021) — full specification table for 4-iron through SW (the 49-degree wedge Sub 70 stamps AW is listed here as GW): loft, lie, offset in millimetres (5.7 down to 1.0, converted to inches here), head weights 249 to 301 g, standard lengths 39 to 35.75 inches, 455 Carpenter steel material, plus the launch copy: most forgiving Sub 70 iron ever, hollow body with the 699's 1.7 mm 455 Carpenter steel face, TPE resin injection, perimeter weighting, high MOI and a revised ultra-wide sole.

  • Note: the archived table prints a single 'Standard Length' row without a steel/graphite split, and no bounce row, so bounce is omitted. Sub 70 builds every set to order from a large no-upcharge shaft and grip menu, so no stock shaft is recorded. year_discontinued is null: the 799 still appears in the golfsub70.com iron lineup on an archive.org capture of 14 May 2025 and no successor has been announced.
