About the TaylorMade MG4
The MG4 (Milled Grind 4) is the 2023 generation of TaylorMade's tour wedge line, announced on 15 August 2023 and at retail from 8 September 2023 until the fully forged MG5 replaced it in 2025. Its signature addition is Spin Tread technology — tire-inspired laser etching between the grooves that channels moisture on wet shots — on the same raw-face, milled-sole platform as the MG3. The matrix runs 23 loft/bounce/grind combinations from 46 to 60 degrees across seven grinds, including the two Tiger Woods grind models at 56 and 60 degrees. The retail finish is Tour Satin Chrome; the 46- and 48-degree SB, 54-degree HB and 58-degree HB combinations were custom-order only, and the MyMG4 program added black, aged copper and raw finishes.
Grind options
The sole grinds this model is sold in, with the lofts each one is available at.
- SB Grind (Standard Bounce)46°, 48°, 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
- All-around performance that prevents excessive digging and lets the head glide through the turf — the grind offered at every loft from 46 to 60 degrees.
- SBC Grind (Standard Bounce C)58°, 60°
- A C-grind take on the standard sole with increased versatility for players who manipulate face angles, without giving up bounce performance.
- LB Grind (Low Bounce)56°, 58°, 60°
- Low leading edge for added versatility and shot-making in firm conditions.
- LBV Grind (Low Bounce V)58°, 60°
- V-shaped low-bounce sole for skilled players with a shallow attack angle who open and shut the face around the greens.
- HB Grind (High Bounce)54°, 56°, 58°, 60°
- TaylorMade's standard high-bounce sole, playable enough for skilled golfers — Rory McIlroy kept an HB 60 in play depending on conditions.
- HBW Grind (High Bounce Wide)58°, 60°
- High bounce with an increased sole width for improved playability, at its best from sand.
- TW Grind (Tiger Woods)56°, 60°
- Tiger Woods's grinds sold as their own models: the 56 is a dual sole with heavy heel relief, the 60 carries extreme leading-edge bounce with a shaved heel.

Frequently asked questions
What lofts does the TaylorMade MG4 come in?
The MG4 was sold from 46 to 60 degrees in 2-degree steps — 23 loft, bounce and grind combinations, with the 46- and 48-degree heads offered through custom order only.
What grinds does the TaylorMade MG4 offer?
Seven: SB standard bounce at every loft, SBC (58-60), LB low bounce (56-60), LBV (58-60), HB high bounce (54-60), the wide-sole HBW (58-60) and the Tiger Woods TW grind at 56 and 60 degrees.
What is Spin Tread on the MG4?
Tire-inspired laser etching between the grooves on the raw face. It gives moisture an escape route in wet conditions, which TaylorMade credits with more consistent spin on partial shots.
When was the TaylorMade MG4 discontinued?
The MG4 ran from September 2023 until 2025, when the fully forged MG5 replaced it at the top of TaylorMade's wedge line.
Finding one used
The TaylorMade MG4 ran from 2023 to 2025 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search the used listings on eBay. Check the loft and bounce against the chart above before buying used — wedges are routinely bent from standard, and worn grooves cost spin long before a wedge looks worn.
