About the TaylorMade SIM Max

The SIM Max took over from the M6 as TaylorMade's mainstream game-improvement iron in 2020. It keeps the Speed Bridge structure introduced on the M6 but adds the ECHO Damping System, a polymer insert running heel to toe behind the face, and pairs it with a Thru-Slot Speed Pocket and progressive Inverted Cone Technology. Lofts are marginally weaker than the M6 in the 8-iron only; the 7-iron stays at 28.5 degrees and the pitching wedge at 43.5 degrees. Lengths are TaylorMade's progressive set measured on the ground plane. Specs below are the men's standard steel-shaft build.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a TaylorMade SIM Max 7-iron?

The TaylorMade SIM Max 7-iron has a loft of 28.5 degrees, with a 63-degree lie and a 37.25-inch steel-shaft length.

Are the SIM Max irons the same loft as the M6 irons?

Almost identically. Both use a 19-degree 4-iron, a 28.5-degree 7-iron and a 43.5-degree pitching wedge. The only change is the 8-iron, which went from 33 degrees on the M6 to 32.5 degrees on the SIM Max.

What is the ECHO Damping System in the SIM Max irons?

It is a soft polymer insert that spans the head from heel to toe behind the face, held in place by the Speed Bridge. It absorbs the high-frequency vibration a very thin, fast face produces, so the iron can be flexible without sounding harsh.

What is the pitching wedge loft on the SIM Max irons?

The SIM Max pitching wedge is 43.5 degrees. The set continues with a 49-degree approach wedge, a 54-degree sand wedge and a 59-degree lob wedge.

Finding a used set

The TaylorMade SIM Max is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.
