About the TaylorMade M6
The M6 replaced the M4 as TaylorMade's mainstream game-improvement iron in 2019. Its headline change is the Speed Bridge, a rib that runs from the topline to the back of the sole and stiffens the head so the Speed Pocket and the unsupported thin face could be made more flexible without the sound turning harsh; a HYBRAR damping bar sits behind it. Lofts are unchanged from the M4, with a 28.5-degree 7-iron and a 43.5-degree pitching wedge. The stated lengths use the ground-plane method TaylorMade adopted on 1 November 2018, so they read roughly half an inch longer than the M4 figures even though the physical clubs are within an eighth of an inch of each other. Why are the M6 irons listed as longer than the M4 irons?
It is a measuring change, not a design change. From 1 November 2018 TaylorMade switched from the older pin-length method to the USGA-preferred ground-plane method, which adds about half an inch to the stated figure. TaylorMade states the physical lengths of the M6 are within an eighth of an inch of the previous M-series irons.
What does the Speed Bridge do in the M6 irons?
The Speed Bridge is a rib joining the topline to the rear of the sole. It stiffens the head structure, which let TaylorMade keep a very flexible face and Speed Pocket without the hollow, tinny sound that usually comes with them, and it holds a HYBRAR damping bar.
What is the pitching wedge loft on the M6 irons?
The M6 pitching wedge is 43.5 degrees, the same as the M4. The set continues with a 49-degree approach wedge, a 54-degree sand wedge and a 59-degree lob wedge.
Finding a used set
The TaylorMade M6 is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.
