About the TaylorMade P790 (2023)

The fourth-generation P790 keeps the family loft chart intact for a fourth time — 30.5 degrees at the 7-iron, 45 at the pitching wedge — and reworks the internals. The face is a forged wrap-around L-Face over a Speed Pocket, the SpeedFoam Air filling is retained, and up to 38 grams of tungsten is used to drive the FLTD CG progression, lowest in the long irons and rising through the set. Lofts, lies, lengths and offsets carry over unchanged from the 2021 model. Figures are the men's standard right-handed steel build.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a TaylorMade P790 (2023) 7-iron?

The 2023 P790 7-iron has a loft of 30.5 degrees, a lie of 62.5 degrees and a steel-shaft length of 37.00 inches.

Have P790 lofts changed since 2017?

No. Every generation from 2017 to 2023 uses 19, 21, 23.5, 26.5, 30.5, 35, 40, 45 and 50 degrees from 3-iron to approach wedge. Only lengths and offsets have moved, and only between the 2017 and 2019 models.

What is the difference between the 2021 and 2023 P790?

The loft, lie, length and offset charts are identical. The 2023 model changes the face to a forged wrap-around L-Face, adds up to 38 grams of tungsten, and uses the FLTD CG progression to sit the centre of gravity lowest in the long irons and highest in the scoring irons.

What is the pitching wedge loft on the 2023 P790?

45 degrees, with a 50-degree approach wedge completing the published range.

Finding a used set

The TaylorMade P790 (2023) ran from 2023 to 2025 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.

Data compiled from:
  • 2ndswing.com TaylorMade 2023 P790 Iron Set specification table — loft, lie, length, offset (in millimetres) and swing weight for the 3-iron through approach wedge, plus the KBS Tour Lite / Dynamic Gold 95 / Dynamic Gold 105 / MMT stock shaft list. Offset is converted to inches here.
  • todays-golfer.com 'TaylorMade P790 Irons (2023)' — confirms the 2023 launch, the forged 8620 body, the high-strength L-Face, SpeedFoam Air, the Speed Pocket and the up-to-38-gram tungsten weighting behind the FLTD CG progression.
  • Note: bounce was not published in the sources consulted and is omitted rather than estimated. Swing weight is the steel build; the source also lists D0 for graphite.
