About the TaylorMade r7 XD

The r7 XD was the draw-biased iron of TaylorMade's 2009 r7 XD range, built around Draw-Weighted Technology that encourages faster face rotation through impact. An ultra-deep, wide cavity, maximum offset, a wide cambered sole and an Inverted Cone face make it one of the most slice-correcting and forgiving irons TaylorMade offered, and a soft aluminum dampening web tunes the feel. The compact stock set runs 5-iron to pitching wedge plus a 54-degree sand wedge, on a lightweight Uniflex steel shaft; graphite was offered in S, R, M and L flexes. Specs below are the men's standard steel-shaft build.

Frequently asked questions

What is the loft of a TaylorMade r7 XD 7-iron?

The TaylorMade r7 XD 7-iron has a loft of 32 degrees, with a 63-degree lie and a 36.75-inch steel-shaft length.

Are the TaylorMade r7 XD irons draw-biased?

Yes, strongly. Draw-Weighted Technology places mass to speed up face rotation through impact, and combined with maximum offset the design is intended to turn a slice into a straight shot or draw.

What clubs came in the r7 XD iron set?

The stock set was compact: 5-iron through pitching wedge plus a 54-degree sand wedge. There was no stock 3-iron, 4-iron or gap wedge, reflecting the set's focus on easy-to-hit clubs for higher handicappers.

Finding a used set

The TaylorMade r7 XD ran from 2009 to 2010 and is no longer in production, so the used market is the only source. Search eBay, 2nd Swing, Golf Avenue and the PGA Tour Superstore trade-in listings, and check the loft and lie against the chart above before buying — sets this age have often been bent from standard.
